As you prepare to lead your Financial Peace University class, there are a few key decisions to make: how much time do you want to commit, how many people to invite, what format to use, and where to meet.
This guide will help you plan a class that works best for you and your group.
Time Commitment
Preparing for your class is simple and manageable.
- Plan to spend about 30-45 minutes each week reviewing the lesson and the Coordinator Guide
- Class sessions typically run:
- 90 minutes (watching the lesson together)
- 45-60 minutes (if members watch the lesson on their own beforehand)
A little preparation each week goes a long way in helping you lead confidently.
Class Size
Your class can be as big or small as you'd like.
- There is no minimum or maximum size requirement.
- The average class has about 7 people.
- You can choose to:
- Keep your class private (invite-only)
- Open it to others in your community.
Focus less on size and more on creating a space where people feel comfortable participating.
Class Format
There are two main ways to run your class:
In-Person
- Watch the lesson together, then discuss as a group.
- Typically lasts about 90 - 120 minutes
- Works best in a space with a screen and internet access
Alternative option:
- Members watch the lessons on their own
- Meet in person for 45-60 minutes of discussion
Virtual
- Members watch the lessons on their own before class
- Meet online (Zoom, etc) for discussion
- Sessions typically last about 45 minutes
Choose the format that best fits your group's schedule and preferences
Location
Where you host your class depends on your format:
-
In-person classes can meet:
- At church
- In a library or community space
- Discussion-based groups (watching videos ahead of time) can meet almost anywhere:
- Coffee shops
- Parks
- Restaurants
The best location is one that's comfortable, accessible, and encourages conversations.
